This is part two of my desert shoot with Kendall Neuner. You can see the first set of images HERE.
I like this first shot of this series because it reminds of the Carl Theodor Dreyer film, “The Passion of Joan of Arc“. Loosely but I see some similarities. The look in her face and in her eyes. I wanted a feeling of isolation mixed with a spirit of playfulness. When I started photography, I shot in black and white and have always loved that medium of photography. I think that is why I desaturate so much of my color images. Then enhance the mood by introducing color back in by slit toning the image. This will give the monochromatic image had a somewhat 3D effect as well.
I also loved shooting out in Vasquez Rocks. If you never been, you should go. It’s a small national park just north of Los Angeles. It’s been shot like gazillion times. Hell it’s been in Star Trek a bunch of times but I think you can always find new ways of shooting familiar places. There are always exceptions. Always.
