So if you haven’t been following, this post is the second post about my cycling trip through the desert with my uncle. You can read the first post here.
After 3 hard days of cycling, we ended up in this high class motel for high rollers. Joking of course. This place was a lovely dump but very much welcomed after me right knee started to give. I don’t think the bikers they are welcoming referred to us. But this middle of nowhere had it’s charm and a great bar with cold beer and ice for my knee. At this point we rode about 210 miles. It was cold in the desert this time of year. The bar had decent food- except for the hot wings which were gross- and the local color told stories of the pornography shoots done in that pool out back. Apparently these are not closed set shoots. Such a weird place. And the motel had an abandoned motel right next it. Creepy but still fun to see what you can find in the middle of nowhere.
Starting Cycling Day 4
Halfway through the fourth day, we stumbled upon a dying desert tree still covered in Christmas wrappings. It would nice to see such color and sparkles in miles of nothingness.
We got stranded for a day without food or water. Well we had 2 bottles of water each and a box of Cliff Bars. We made it to a border station where guards were were nice enough to refill our water. We were very lucky.
St. Patrick’s Day
The second to last day of this trip was St. Patty’s day. We made it to a small town on the east side of the mountain from San Diego called Ocotillo, Ca. We found ourselves drinking green beers at the Lazy Lizard. Mmmm green food coloring in a Carona. There’s nothing like it. HA!
